Q.
How long did it take you to write the book?
A. Four months. I started it in November
2004 and finished it in March 2005.
Q. How many publishers did you send it to?
A. I was very lucky to have it accepted by the first
publisher I sent it to. This was Book Guild Publishing.
Q. Did you draw the picture on the front
cover?
A. No. I wish I had. Someone at the
publishers did it and I hope to meet that person one day - it's brill and
I want to say a big thank you.
Q. What inspired you to write a book?
A. A teacher told me at school that one
day I would write a book - I always had to read out to the class my
creative writing stories.
Q. Where did you get the idea for the
wishing machine from?
A. From my father's workshop. He used to
sharpen big lawn mower blades on a huge grinding machine and I thought
that the sparks which flew off were stars - I thought it was magic.
Q. How did you come up with the name
Benson?
A. One of my father's friends on Cinder
Lane was called Mick Benson and when I chose that name I had to go and
tell him he was going to be in the book but he was going to be a cat!
Q. How many words are there in the book?
A. Over 40,000.
Q. Are you famous?
A. No, but I am getting
recognised a lot
more when I go shopping.
